Kenneth John Folmer

February 6, 1952 ~ July 24, 2021 (age 69)

Kenneth John Folmer passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2021.  Ken was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on February 6th, 1952 to parents John and Maxine Folmer. The family lived in Trenton, then moved to

Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania. In 1967, the family moved to Fort Collins, where he graduated from Poudre High School. Ken went on to graduate with a Food Service Degree from Purdue in Indiana.

He served as a chef starting at Mr. Steak Restaurant in Ft. Collins, Colorado. He then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona and worked as a chef at Scottsdale Village Square and Grand Canyon University Foundation. Later, he became Director of Food and Beverage at Marriott Sunrise Senior Living and later at Beatitudes Campus of Care where he was loved by the residents and his coworkers. Ken served on the Board for Le Cordon Blue in Scottsdale and the Chef Association in Arizona. Throughout his career, he received many awards for his culinary achievements. Ken was nominated and chosen as Chef of the Year for the United States, received an honorary accomplishment teaching a nutrition class for the Chicago Cubs, and his most cherished, the legendary meals for friends and family.

Ken was passionate about cooking. He always found joy in the kitchen and happiness in the many banquets, parties, and family meals he prepared. He had a gift for creating beautiful and intricate ice sculptures for the many banquets and events. In his time working at the Beatitudes, Ken developed a soft spot for the elderly. You could find him interacting with them whenever he could, and developing meal plans to suit each person’s needs. During the holidays he played Santa at the Care Centers and brought joy to countless people.

Ken always enjoyed the outdoors and spent a lot of his time fishing, camping, shooting, hunting, and taking vacation trips. He would stay up until 2 in the morning pack and preparing for trips. He always knew where to go, what lures to bring, and still managed to make a 5-star meal in the middle of the wilderness. He loved his time with his children and grandchildren.

Ken is survived by his sister Sharon Kelley and family, Robert Folmer and family, Dawn Folmer Roth and family, and William Folmer and family. He was blessed to have three grandchildren; Cody & Ryland Roth and Amelia Folmer. He is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Folmer, parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.

His cherished smile will be missed every day.
