Margaret Kelley

November 27, 1929 ~ March 14, 2021 (age 91)

Margaret E. Kelley, 91, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on March 14, 2021. Margaret was born in Iquitos, Peru, on November 27, 1929 to Alexander R. Hay and Margaret J. Stuart, and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She came to the United States when she was 18 years old and attended Westmont College in California. Margaret became a United States citizen in 1963.

Throughout her working career, Margaret worked for the Wyoming Supreme Court and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. She was appointed to the Judicial Nominating Commission and then appointed as a lay member of the Judicial Supervisory Commission. She had a deep love of the law and always found opportunities to educate herself.

Margaret loved many areas of California, especially San Francisco. She was a great lover of the ocean. She moved to Colorado and fell in love with the Rocky Mountains. She lived in Denver, Grand Junction, and Fort Collins, Colorado, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Margaret was a voracious reader, master of language, and took great pleasure in all kinds of art. Her greatest achievement and joy in life were her beloved grandchildren, whom she took great pride in hearing all about their accomplishments.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, an older brother, Stuart Hay, and a younger sister, Grace Hay. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, David and Marita Hay of Arizona, and her children, Leslie Erickson (David) of Wellington, Colorado, Andrew ‘Drew’ Kelley (Sarah) of Loveland, Colorado, and Kristi Rulon (Scott) of Fort Collins, Colorado, along with her 7 grandchildren. Her much loved grandchildren are Stephanie Arnold, Stacee Arnold, Evan Kelley (Danielle), Seth Kelley (Anna), Colton Kelley, Marlo Rulon and Dawsen Rulon. Family was a vital part of her life and brought much joy to her last days.

There are no services planned at this time. Margaret wished for her ashes to be spread in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and the Grand Tetons of Wyoming, which her children will honor later this summer or fall.
