Judy Louise Batty, 81, passed away peacefully at Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland, Colorado, on December 6, 2021.
Lou was born in Paris, TX April 30, 1940, to Frank Whitson and I.V Houston Whitson.
Lou grew up in Colorado coming here as a very young child. She was in an orphanage at about 8 yrs. old along with 2 of her 3 brothers. Moving around from Denver to the Western slope and then to Ft Collins. Her brothers were adopted. She was a foster child until the age of 18. She married her husband Ed of 52 years on March 27, 1959. Lou and Ed had four daughters.
They loved exploring the Rocky Mountains. Fishing, camping, picnicking, gambling spending time with the grandkids. Lou loved the Oregon coast and Santa Fe, NM. She was a member of the Ft. Collins Moose Lodge sometime back for 25 years and became Senior Regent Women of the Moose. She enjoyed every minute of it.
Lou enjoyed reading mystery books and western romance. She collected owls and wind chimes She was a KC chiefs’ fan. We never knew why KC and she didn’t tell us. She had a huge garden in her earlier years and spent a lot of her time working in it. Cooking, canning /freezing what she grew. She never let you leave without a bag. Lou learned to do all of this on her own while raising four girls. It was “sink or swim” and she swam! She enjoyed collecting post cards and was so happy when she got one in the mail or given one. She worked for 7 years at the Poudre R-1 school district in the kitchen and volunteered at her great Granddaughter’s pre-school. Lou had a great sense of humor and laughed often.
The most important thing in her life were her children, grandchildren/grandchildren in law, her extended family that referred to her as Mom, Mama, Aunt and Grandma. Lou’s nickname was “Grandma Punkin” given to her by her first great grandchild and it stuck with her all these years. She would keep up with her family through phone calls and when she called, she would hang up and call you right back, as she had more to say! When she came to visit anyone in her family, she always had her slippers in hand.
Lou was reunited with one of her brothers this past August after 70 plus years, she prayed for this as long as we remember and carried Billy and Darroll’s picture with her always.
Lou will be deeply missed by her family; she was the link that kept us all together and those who referred to her as family.
Our hearts are broken...
Lou is survived by her daughters.
