Dr. F.C. Luna a retired Colorado educator and resident of Fort Collins, CO, died unexpectedly on July 30, 2021, at the age of 75 in his home.
Dr. Luna is survived by his children Amy Luna, Sista Luna, Zach Luna and Charles Luna, his grandchildren Apollo Luna and Athena Luna, and his sister Marge Sanchez.
Dr. Luna was born in Pueblo, CO in 1946 to Sista and Francisco Luna. He received a B.A. in World Languages from Colorado State University in 1968, an M.A. in Education and Administration from Colorado State University in 1974, and a PHD (Ed.D) in Education and Administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 1977. He worked in several capacities during his career as an educator including as a professor of education at the University of Northern Colorado, Colorado State University and Regis University and as a middle school counselor and middle school and high school teacher. Luna also served as an administrator in multiple Colorado public schools including Greeley Central High School, Centaurus High School, Ranum High School and Halcyon Elementary in Denver. In addition, he worked as a diversity specialist for both educational and community organizations including serving as Coordinator of Multicultural Education/Diversity in the Boulder Valley Public Schools, the Executive Director of the Colorado Hispanic Institute in Denver, and the Co-Director of Rocky Mountain Intercultural Institute.
Luna enjoyed family, athletics, reading and social interaction. Throughout his life he made it a priority to be consistently involved in the lives of his five siblings, Carlotta, Guadalupe, Francisco, Dan, and Marge and their extended family. Dr. Luna was an avid tennis enthusiast. He played collegiate tennis for Colorado State University and was a professional tennis instructor and coach for many years. He loved learning and engaging ideas and spent much of his spare time reading. Luna was a gregarious individual always interested in sharing in conversations with family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances.
